My fibroids update.

Whewwww. Well…after a month of extreme abnormal bleeding (changing ultra products every 30min-hour), calls to the advice nurse to tell me I needed to see a doctor immediately and being told I became anemic and have anemia. I had to book an appointment for blood work and an MRI to check the size of my fibroid. I followed through with my scheduled doctor’s appointment that I booked months in advance before everything became extreme. I have a lovely doctor who walked me through my options. She told me getting them removed would be best because the location of my fibroid was causing extreme bleeding. I had three iron IV appointments before the surgery because my iron was scary low. I had my surgery on May 24th. Surgery was at 7:30am and lasted 3+ hours. Unfortunately my fibroid was so big and dense I had to schedule a part two of my surgery to get the rest out. My last surgery was on June 14th and that lasted 2+ hours. They were able to remove all of it and now I am a few days into recovery. It is so wild how something can escalate so quickly. My takeaway is to be proactive. I was able to ask questions and get resources from my community who also have challenges with fibroids. I was prepared and optimistic. I was also scared and extremely stressed. Don’t get me wrong. ..this season of my life was not fun at all. I was juggling grad school (papers, assignments, group projects, group meetups and classes), working full time with my youth, participating in my internship, maintaining my relationships with family/friends and navigating my health. It was a lot, but I am blessed to have a great support system and care team that made sure I was safe and looked after.

I still have fibroids but they are in places that haven’t caused any problems. I hope it stays that way. If you are experiencing something similar to my story, you are not alone. A great resource that my friend shared with me is the IG page: @wecanwearwhite . They share stories and resources.
